A kokpar master class was held in the village of Talapker near Astana, organized as part of preparations for the V World Nomad Games, Liter.kz reports with reference to the official site capital city akimat.
To popularize the upcoming Games, which will begin in a month, a group called “Caravan of Unity” was created in all regions of the country. The group included ten specially selected sports figures and journalists. On August 8, as part of this initiative, a master class was held on kokpar, a traditional Kazakh sport.
“Kokpar is a national sport that has its roots in ancient times of the Kazakhs. In the 21st century, in the era of globalization, our national traditions are gradually being forgotten. The V World Nomad Games, which will be held for the first time in the fall, are of great importance. For some, this is just a competition for prizes, but for us, it is a revival of the traditions of our ancestors and their transfer to future generations. We will not limit ourselves to this master class: in the coming days, there will be classes in horse riding, asyk atu and other sports,” said kokpar coach Erlan Kanapin.
