Assam Police STF seized more than 2 kg of heroin worth crores in two raids

Guwahati Guwahati: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police seized over 2 kg heroin worth Rs 17.5 crore and arrested four drug peddlers in two separate operations. In the first operation, the STF team recovered 1.732 kg heroin worth Rs 15 crore and arrested two persons in Golaghat district on Sunday. Assam Police CPRO Pranab Jyoti Goswami said, based on information from reliable source about storage of large quantity of banned drugs, a raid was conducted by the team of STF, Assam and a soap box filled with 13 grams of heroin was recovered from the possession of Mohammed Shohidul Islam and Oliullah Hussain.

Pranab Jyoti Goswami said, “Further, during interrogation on the spot, both the apprehended persons admitted to hiding the heroin in their sister’s house and the two apprehended persons took them to their sister Zahida Khatun’s house and recovered 140 soap cans of heroin which were hidden in the premises of their sister’s house. The recovered heroin was found to weigh 1.719 kg. A total of 141 soap cans were recovered weighing 1.732 kg. The value of the seized contraband is about Rs 15 crore.” In another operation, the STF team recovered 308 grams of heroin from Katabari area of ​​Guwahati and arrested two persons.
Assam Police CPRO said, “Information was received that the contraband would be transported from Dimapur to Lower Assam by Avadh Assam Express by two smugglers Sahar Ali and Mir Hussain of Daulasal (Barpeta). Based on the input, the smugglers were apprehended at their rented accommodation at Katahbari in Guwahati and 22 soap boxes/packets of heroin weighing 308 grams without cover were recovered. Both the smugglers have been arrested and necessary legal action has been initiated.” (ANI)
