Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal granted bail for 23 days in excise corruption case. On Friday (May 10), the Supreme Court of India announced that Kejriwal is being granted bail. However, it will expire on June 1. After that day his bail will expire. In other words, if he does not get bail again, the Chief Minister of Delhi will have to spend the counting day of the Lok Sabha elections (June 4) in jail.
However, Kejriwal’s lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi pleaded that Kejriwal be kept out of jail on the day of counting. He applied to extend the bail till June 5. However, the Supreme Court of India directly said ‘no’ to that.

A division bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutt ordered Kejriwal to surrender on June 2. This means that the Aam Aadmi Party leader will be out of jail during the last phase of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1. But the next day he had to surrender.
Kejriwal is currently imprisoned in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. He was arrested on March 21 in an excise corruption case. Since then the chief minister was trying to get bail. He applied for bail in the Delhi High Court, but it was rejected by the court. After that, the AAP supremo applied for bail in the Supreme Court.
A bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutt had indicated to grant bail to Kejriwal in the hearing last Tuesday. They said, in the atmosphere of this vote, the issue of bail of the Chief Minister can be considered. However, on the same day, the Supreme Court said that even if Kejriwal gets bail, he will not be able to sign any government file for the time being.
Then, Kejriwal was granted interim bail today, more than a month and a half after his arrest.
