Artificial Intelligence Research Commission to be Established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly

A research commission will be established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) to discuss artificial intelligence on the agenda of the Assembly. The commission will conduct studies on topics such as the current state of artificial intelligence programs, the reliability of the programs, whether they act in accordance with the principle of transparency, measures taken to protect personal data, and responsibility towards users.

Preparations for the new legislative session are ongoing in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, which is on recess until October 1. In addition to the bills planned to be discussed during the 29th Legislative Session, a research commission will be established to discuss artificial intelligence on the agenda of the Assembly. The Artificial Intelligence Research Commission will include deputies from all parties. The Research Commission will conduct studies on topics such as the current state of artificial intelligence programs, the reliability of the programs, whether they act in accordance with the principle of transparency, measures taken to protect personal data, and responsibility towards users.

REPORT WILL BE PREPARED

The establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Research Commission first came to the agenda when the TBMM Digital Media Commission Chairman and AK Party Hatay Deputy Hüseyin Yayman said, “There are studies on the establishment of a research commission in the Parliament on artificial intelligence” at a meeting where Google officials made a presentation. The Artificial Intelligence Research Commission will invite public institutions and organizations, representatives of artificial intelligence companies in Turkey, academics, IT experts and experts interested in the subject to meetings and request information. The research commission, which is planned to work for a certain period of time, will prepare a report on artificial intelligence after its work is completed. It will be decided later whether the prepared report will be turned into a bill.
