Arthrogryposis: Deniska (2) was born with a rare disease of the joints

“With the braces, her legs came out at the same time. She had them folded over her belly to her head and it took several months before she could even put them on the mat. In addition, the doctors discovered that she had a cleft palate and immediately after birth she was taken to the ICU,” Mrs. Klára recalls.

No one knows what will happen…

Deniska’s subsequent examinations revealed, in addition to arthrogryposis, which causes joint stiffness and impaired motor skills, cleft hard and soft palate, hearing loss, bad curvature of the spine, chest deformation and congenital crossing of the fingers.

Since arthrogryposis is a rare disease that is not well researched from a medical point of view, and in Deniska it is also combined with other problems, no one can say exactly what her prospects are for the future and what exactly to do for her successful treatment.

“At the age of 8 months, my daughter underwent her first inguinal hernia operation and so-called grommets were inserted into her ears. These are tubes about 3 mm in size that are inserted through the ear drum into the middle ear, providing relief of excess pressure in the middle ear and improving hearing.” Mrs. Klára describes the first of many interventions that Deniska has to undergo.

Help with joints and pain

The family has high hopes for intensive and regular rehabilitation, which is necessary to maintain joint mobility and prevent pain. “For this reason, we regularly go to rehabilitation and hippotherapy every week. Thanks to this, the daughter’s spinal curvature is slowly improving and she can manage the position on all fours better. However, unfortunately, he still does not sit, crawl, climb, and future walking is not at all certain.” Mom describes. Deniska still wears braces on her legs and one hand, and she will undergo cleft palate surgery in the coming months.

Caring for Deniska is demanding both mentally and financially for the family. That’s why her parents decided to ask for help from the Good Angels, who, through the Good Angel Foundation, help families with children in which someone is dealing with a serious illness. “Deniska is a great fighter and deserves to have more than life itself intended for her. Our effort to put her back on her feet costs us a lot of strength, but we are not going to give up until we win over her fate. Good angels our enormous gratitude.

Denča still has a long way to go, but we believe that with their help and the quality care he can receive thanks to them, we can do the impossible. We use the contributions from them for rehabilitation, hippotherapy, special aids and trips to doctors,” says Mrs. Klára, who finds great support in her husband, family and Deniska’s four-year-old sister, Terezka.

Sisterly love

“Tereza is an absolutely perfect and understanding little girl. He helps me with Deniska, calms her down, protects her from people we don’t see often. Maybe she explains to them right away that she doesn’t like being touched, and that they have to be careful with her, especially her feet. Unfortunately, even Terinka sometimes gets sad and asks when he will be able to play with her again. For now, we are solving it so that Terezka speaks to her and I am responsible for Deniska. This conversation is always followed by a wonderful hug,” the mother concludes her story with emotion.
