The Minister of Health said that action will be taken against whoever goes out of the hospital during office hours. Samant Lal Sen. He said, it can be seen from the words that the doctors were attacked by accusing them of wrong treatment. Basically there is no such thing as wrong treatment, we have no right to say wrong treatment.
He said these things while addressing a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of the 27th University Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Tuesday (April 30) afternoon.
Addressing the journalists present, he said, I say to you, only the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) has the right to say wrong treatment. If a complaint is made against a doctor there, they investigate and take action accordingly. Several doctors have already been booked by the BMDC for malpractice and negligence. So suddenly what we would call a mistreatment does not happen.
Dr. Samant Lal Sen said, “If allegations of medical negligence are made against any doctor and proved, then I will definitely take action against him.” I have been traveling all over the country since I became a minister. I have only one thing to say to the doctors, I never dreamed that I would come to this place.
Before this, Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) president Dr. Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin said, our medical system has good aspects, we always evaluate them. Also there are some bad aspects, we have to evaluate that aspect as well. We have to take action accordingly. The university we have come to today has also been criticized on various issues a few days ago.
He said, our doctors do their private practice, they can do that, it is their right. But I reached out and saw some doctors go to their private chambers before 12 o’clock. A few days ago a doctor in Brahmanbaria operated in a private chamber during office hours, and unfortunately the patient died. When the news reached me I couldn’t lift my head in shame. We have to look at things strictly.
