Army Chief, Iranian Foreign Minister’s ‘Emphasis on Exchange of Secret Information’

Iranian Foreign Minister Hussain visited Pakistan Amir Abdullahiyan and Army Chief General Asim Munir in a meeting on Monday emphasized the need to fight terrorism jointly.

According to the Department of Public Relations of Pakistan Army (ISPR), the Iranian Foreign Minister met General Asim Munir at GHQ in Rawalpindi today.

Recognizing the historical, religious and cultural ties between Pakistan and Iran, the parties stressed on strengthening bilateral ties and promoting greater understanding of each other’s concerns, the ISPR statement said.

The Army Chief stressed on respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries, calling it sacred, free from interference and the most important component of state-to-state relations.

According to the statement, the parties said that terrorism is a common threat that needs to be tackled through joint efforts, better communication and intelligence sharing.

The Army Chief emphasized the need for constant communication and using available means of communication to address security concerns.

“The parties agreed to implement as soon as possible a mechanism for deploying military liaison officers in each other’s country to improve coordination and efficiency of response to common threats.”

The statement added: ‘The parties reiterated their commitment to remain in close contact and said that no one would be allowed to create differences between the two brotherly countries.

The parties said that Pakistan and Iran are brotherly neighboring countries and the fate of both is related to each other.

The parties reiterated their commitment to peace, stability and prosperity in the border region which was identified as an imperative for the welfare of the people on both sides.

Earlier, the visiting foreign minister held a joint news conference after meeting his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani in Islamabad today.

He said that there is no doubt that there are terrorists in the common border region of Pakistan and Iran and in Iranian and Pakistani areas who are supported and led by third countries.

The Iranian foreign minister further said that his country attaches great importance to close brotherly relations with Pakistan and both countries respect each other’s border and territorial sovereignty.

He said that in the meeting with the Pakistani foreign minister, it was agreed that ‘Iran and Pakistan will not allow terrorists to threaten our security.’

Hussain Amir Abdullahian said that the Iranian president will try to visit Pakistan as soon as possible.

Pakistan’s Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani said that Iran and Pakistan are friendly neighboring countries, and have long-standing cultural, religious and fraternal relations with Iran. Strong relations are important for the development of both countries.
