A bus driver and conductor died after passengers were beaten up in a row over extra fare collection in Ashulia. After receiving the information, the police recovered the bodies of the two.
The incident took place on Monday (April 8) around 2 pm in the area adjacent to the EPZ on the Nabinagar-Chandra highway. Other passengers rescued them and took them to Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital where they died around 7:30 pm while undergoing treatment.
The deceased were Sohel Rana Babu (26) from Tongi area of Gazipur, the driver of Itihasa Paribahan and Hriday (30) from Phulpur area of Mymensingh, the conductor of the same bus. They used to work as drivers and conductors in Itishah Paribahan, moving to Mirpur in the capital.
According to the police, quoting the helper of a bus of Itishah Paribahan, there was an argument with the passengers on the bus leaving from Mirpur. One of them threatened to beat them up. Later, when the bus reached the EPZ area, some youths boarded the bus and started beating the driver and conductor. Meanwhile, the helper of the bus ran away.
Ashulia Police Inspector (Investigation) Md. Masudur Rahman said that the bus driver and conductor of Itishah Paribahan were attacked by passengers for asking for extra fare. Their bodies were recovered and sent to Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital for autopsy.
