As reported by IFL Science, it was named in honor of Rodolfo Giménez, a local fossil picker who helped find the specimen.

Found in rocks nearly 70 million years old, this tiny creature was named Titanomachya gimenezi. It was 10 times smaller than its largest titanosaur relative, making it one of the smallest ever described.

The fossils were unearthed in the Chubut Province of Argentine Patagonia, where scientists were working on the La Colonia Formation. There, they discovered the fore and hind legs, rib fragments, and vertebrae of this mysterious species of titanosaur – marking the first sauropod ever recognized from the La Colonia Formation.

This finding is interesting for several reasons. First, it shows that titanosaurs were more diverse than previously thought.

Second, it provides insight into how titanosaurs evolved and spread across South America. Ultimately, it helps us understand the environment in which titanosaurs lived.

Titanomachya gimenezi was likely about 5 meters (16 feet) tall and weighed about 7 tons (15,400 pounds). It is a herbivore, eating plants with its long neck and tail. It lived in dense forests with other dinosaurs, including carnivores and herbivores.

The discovery of Titanomachya gimenezi is a reminder of the diversity and complexity of life in the past. It is also an important reminder of the importance of preserving fossil and paleontological sites.
