Apprentice trainer academy: keeping conflicts small and thus increasing hopes for the future in the company | ÖHV – 2024-02-15 01:05:13

ÖHV (Vienna): If uncertainty is accepted as part of the learning process, classic conflicts between trainer and apprentice do not even arise

Vienna (OTS) The school couldn’t arouse interest, parents often couldn’t reach children of that age – these often go hand in hand. Brigitta Brunner, head of the ÖHV campus, doesn’t know any miracle cures – but she offers further training on the ÖHV campus for apprentice trainers who are confronted with this every day: “Understanding young people, picking them up, motivating them, laughing with them and Showing boundaries reduces conflicts and areas of friction. Everything becomes easier when you understand their way of thinking instead of quickly feeling provoked or seeming insecure. Anyone can gain this knowledge. We pass it on to make it easier to deal with these situations,” motivates the continuing education expert.

Young people as 3D images

The apprentice trainer academy helps young people to be perceived as bright, thoughtful and innovative future specialists. “It’s like one of those 3D pictures: If you know how to look, a whole new perspective opens up.” This doesn’t solve everything, but it makes a lot of things easier. Brunner helps to discover – and keep – the stars of tomorrow: “We have to keep those who awaken emotions, who have the ability to bind guests to the house, sell upgrades with ease and create added value with charm. We give trainers the tools to discover and awaken hidden skills.” Brunner scouted and found experts with this specialist knowledge and hired them for the apprentice trainer academy.

A training course that awakens enthusiasm

Werner Wallner, head chef at the Vulkanlandhotel Legenstein, completed the course and benefited from it: “An extraordinary source of inspiration! The positive learning environment! We were taught legal, technical and social skills. Young people need a lot of empathy, as well as clarity and structure! It is a challenge and a promotion. Learning this again together with other instructors was really fun!”

A toolbox full of valuable tools

Anyone who recognizes uncertainty and accepts it as a natural part of the learning process can react to it constructively: typical conflicts between trainer and apprentice do not even arise. Especially when dealing with insecure or overly secure emotional young people, a supportive environment that is conducive to the personal development of apprentices is crucial. “Graduates from the apprentice trainer academy bring with them a comprehensive toolbox that makes it easier to deal with imperfections and uncertainties. A positive working environment is created that improves mood and productivity, reduces fluctuation and costs.” The content ranges from development phases and rules of conduct to written and unwritten values, leadership styles and goals, roles and tasks, conflict and feedback discussions and service contracts and the Vocational Training Act.

The goal: better prepared for challenging situations

Practical training, role plays and interactive workshops ensure that graduates can apply the skills they have acquired in everyday training. With the apprentice trainer academy, trainers grow beyond their classic role as teachers and see themselves more and more as mentors and supporters. “Anyone who has emotional intelligence and empathy in addition to technical competence will be more emotionally robust and better equipped to face the challenges of everyday work that inevitably arise from working together – including with guests,” Brunner is convinced.

No village? But trainers who are up to date!

Brunner only wants to understand that, as the saying goes, it takes a whole village to raise a child in a figurative sense. “But especially during puberty, it helps young people enormously if trainers are up to date.” It helps save money, time and nerves and also promotes one thing: “That our industry trains the skilled workers of tomorrow!”
