JAKARTA, DISWAY.ID – Apple will replace Samsung as the king of smartphone vendors in 2023 according to IDC Labs, Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
Previously, Samung had dominated the smartphone market since 2010, claiming the top position in a very competitive market.
In 2023, Apple took first place in the smartphone market with a record market share despite an overall decline of 3.2%.

Apple takes top spot in 2023 smartphone market, overtaking Samsung for first time since 2010 – IDC –
This shift in power at the top of the largest consumer smartphone market is driven by Apple’s all-time highest market share and its first time at the top.
Overall, the global smartphone market remains challenging, but momentum is moving quickly towards recovery.
According to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, global smartphone shipments fell 3.2% year-on-year to 1.17 billion units in 2023.
While this was the lowest annual volume in a decade, it was largely driven by macroeconomic challenges and a build in inventories earlier in the year.

Growth in the second half of the year has strengthened expectations of a recovery in 2024.
The fourth quarter (4Q23) saw year-over-year growth of 8.5% and 326.1 million shipments, higher than expected growth of 7.3%.
“While we see strong growth from low-end Android players like Transsion and Xiaomi in the second half of 2023, stemming from rapid growth in emerging markets, the biggest winner is clearly Apple,” said Nabila Popal, research director at IDC’s Worldwide Tracker.
