He said, antibiotic resistance is the new alarm in the global health sector. It has spread from humans to animals in rural areas. The Prime Minister is also giving utmost importance to this matter. He serves as Co-Chair of the Global Leaders Group on Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR).

He said this at a discussion meeting held at BRAC Center in Mohakhali, Dhaka on Monday (April 15). The concerned departments of the government including the Ministry of Health and senior officials of BRAC were present on the occasion.

When a breast cancer patient comes to the doctor, there is usually nothing more to do. But if the disease is diagnosed at an early stage, it is largely curable. Similarly, in rural areas, many patients with cleft lip and palate are seen roaming around. They don’t get proper treatment.’

The health minister said, ‘There is a lot of good work going on in the health sector in the country, but there is often a lack of coordination in these areas. People will be benefited if public and private organizations work together.’

In this context, he mentioned Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery and Brac Limb and Brace Center (BLBC) planned and managed artificial limb implantation treatment center and said, ‘Through this, many people are getting benefit of artificial limb transplantation. He also commented that many more such initiatives can be taken in cooperation with the private sector for the welfare of people.
