Anthony Ginting drops out of Paris Olympic seed list, following failure at Indonesia Open

JAKARTA – Head of Development and Achievement Division (Kabid Binpres) PBSI Ricky Subagja, responded to Anthony Sinisuka Ginting’s situation ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is because Ginting is almost certain to be out of the top eight seed position at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This happened after Ginting failed to maintain the runner-up position at the Indonesia Open 2024 and the champion title at the Singapore Open 2024. As a result, he has now been thrown to ninth place in the world and there will be no more tournaments he will participate in before the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Ricky Subagja admitted that Ginting was unable to perform optimally at the Indonesia Open 2024. Apart from Ginting, Jonatan Christie also experienced a similar fate by being eliminated in the first round.

“It’s true, Ginting will lose a lot of points. Obviously because of the results of the Indonesia Open, we will focus more on fixing what actually happened to these athletes, especially Jojo and Ginting,” said Ricky in a press conference at Istora Senayan, Sunday (9/ 6/2024).

Regarding the top position at the Paris Olympics, Ricky and the coaches have discussed this situation. He also has to accept the conditions if Ginting drops out of the top eight seed position and might be able to meet Jonathan earlier.

“We have also calculated that Jojo is probably still in seed 1-4. We have discussed that with the coach,” added Ricky.

“Ginting will definitely be knocked out of the top eight. That’s the risk we face, especially for Ginting. In the future, the results of the drawing could go anywhere. But we have already discussed those calculations,” he continued.

Based on the BWF ranking calculations after the Indonesia Open 2024, Jonathan is predicted to remain in third place and Ginting is in ninth place. BWF itself will only release the official ranking after the Indonesia Open 2024 on Tuesday (11/6/2024).
