Akmola weightlifter Anna Nurmukhametova became the silver medalist of the 2012 Olympic Games held in London, Liter.kz reports with reference to Nayzakokshe.
The athlete then took fifth place in the up to 69 kg category, lifting 115 kg in the snatch and 136 kg in the clean and jerk. Her opponents were recently disqualified as a result of drug rechecks.
Later, as a result of disqualifications and redistribution of awards, she became a silver medalist at the Olympic Games. The International Olympic Committee and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided to redistribute the medals. Thus, Anna Nurmukhametova received legitimate silver.
The ceremony took place in the city of Lima, Republic of Peru (South America).
A honoring ceremony was also held in the athlete’s homeland. On May 31, weightlifter and participant of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris Karina Ibragimova was congratulated in the akimat of Akmola region.
“I am so excited. To be honest, I didn’t even really believe it. Still, 12 years have passed. Nevertheless, I am infinitely happy about this event, this medal,” said Anna Nurmukhambetova.
She has already completed her sports career and now works as a sports methodologist at the Burabay Sports School for Youth and Youth. The athlete became the owner of a two-room apartment.
