A list of 54 products on which measures are being taken to accelerate import substitution, with emphasis on glass packaging, wheat flour, pineapple, sugar, table water, beans, eggs, oil, onions, salt, cement, was presented this Monday, in Luanda, in an initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Planning.
When speaking at the press conference to present the National Production Disclosure Portal, the Secretary of State for Economy, Sérgio Santos, said that new rules for importing these products will now exist with a view to giving priority to domestic production.
He explained that the businessman who wants to import one of the 54 products on the list can do so as long as he observes two conditions, the first being that there is no sufficient domestic production and the second being that the importer demonstrates that he has a contract signed with national producers to purchase the products. products you intend to import.
According to Sérgio Santos, the measures aim to help micro small businesses, entrepreneurs, small producers, to guarantee the sale of their products and also the future sale of those who invest.
“It is not a question of banning or preventing imports of these products, priority will simply be given to access to domestic production. As we know the production of these products and others still have a deficient supply, for a few years we will have to import these products”, he said.
“After internal production has been sold, purchase agreements and future internal production have been established, taking into account the deficit that exists, we can perfectly import, but in this way we can guarantee to announce that anyone who wants to dedicate to national production will be able to do so through the 54 products , your offer will have to meet demand in the market”, he explained.
According to the Secretary of State for Economy, with this measure, the Executive intends to increase the attractiveness of the Angolan market, as these actions are in line with the promotion of national and foreign private investment.
Meanwhile, Sérgio Santos said that the Executive wants to reverse the current trend of flour imports, as there is an internal capacity in the country of more than 500 thousand tons/year. “It is not acceptable to import wheat flour, we have to give our mills space to place wheat flour on the market”, he concluded.
