Angola secures first victory in COSAFA Cup

Luanda – The National Team achieved, today, the first victory in the current edition of the COSAFA Cup by beating the similar team from the Seychelles Islands, by 3-2, in a match corresponding to the second round of Group C.

In the match played at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium, in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, the country hosting the competition, Depú scored twice (9′ and 58′), and Maestro once (58′), for the Angolans and Johan Gamatice (26′) and Brandon Labrosse (46′) for the Seychelles Islands.

With this result, the National Team leads series C, with four points, while today’s opponent is fourth (1pt).

The two teams drew in the first round, with Angola 0-0 with Namibia, while Seychelles drew 1-1 against Lesotho.

The second round of the group ends today after Namibia faces Lesotho at 2pm.

The National Team will return to the scene on Wednesday, the 3rd, when they face Lesotho in the closing round of group C, which also includes (Namibia – Seychelles).

Angola has won the competition on three occasions (1999, 2001 and 2004).

In the last edition, “Os Palancas Negras” were eliminated, still in the group stage. Zambia is the defending champion.
