News from Angola – The National Senior Men’s Football Team was placed in Group F of the qualification for the African Nations Championship (CAN’2025), taking place in the Kingdom of Morocco.
According to the draw held at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the Palancas Negras (national team) are part of the series alongside the teams of Ghana, Niger and Sudan.
Angola and Ghana are considered the main favorites to qualify for one of the two spots.
In history, it will be the eighth duel between the “Palancas Negras” and the Black Stars (Ghana national team), but the third for coach Pedro Gonçalves.
The Angolan team is looking for its second victory against the Ghanaians, after winning 1-0 in 1998, in the qualifying phase for the African championship in Egypt.
Akwá scored the only goal of the match.
Overall, the Ghana national team has five victories in friendly matches from 1980 (2-1), qualifying for the 1998 CAN in Egypt (2-1), CAN in Angola 2010 (1-0) and in the qualifiers for the CAN in Côte d ́Ivoire (1-0).
However, there were also two draws, in a friendly in 2009 (0-0) and in the qualifying phase for the continental competition last January, in Didier Drogba’s lands (1-1).
Angola will face Sudan on September 6th, and Niger on October 11th.
