News from Angola – The senior men’s National Futsal Team begins this Thursday, in Rabat, its journey in the 7th edition of the African Cup of Nations of the sport, against hosts Morocco (trophy holder)
The clash scheduled for 8 pm (Angola time) at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Pavilion, referring to the first round of Group A, a competition to be played from the 11th to the 21st of April in the Moroccan capital.
The competition features the participation of eight national teams, divided into two groups, namely Morocco, Angola, Ghana and Zambia (Group A), Egypt, Mauritania, Namibia and Libya (Group B).
The national team, led by Portuguese coach Marcos Antunes, will face the Zambians on the 13th and the Ghanaians (15th).
The top two in each group will qualify for the semi-finals of the competition, which qualifies the top three for the World Championship to be held in Uzbekistan, from September 14th to October 6th this year.
In history, this will be Angola’s fourth participation in this continental competition, after Libya (2008), South Africa (2016) and Morocco, in 2020, where it won the bronze medal.
Egypt is the country with the most titles won (three), followed by Morocco (trophy holder) with two, while Libya is eyeing the second, after the triumph in 2008, as hosts.
