The state party executive committee of the Upper Austrian People’s Party has appointed the entrepreneur Dr. from Attnang-Puchheim. Angelika Winzig was unanimously nominated as the OÖVP top candidate in the European elections on June 9, 2024. “Angelika Winzig stands for a strong Upper Austria in a strong Europe. The global challenges in particular show us that the European peace project will never be completed and will always require forward-looking reforms. Angelika Winzig will continue to ensure that in Upper Austria in the future EU common sense and not bureaucracy rule. When it comes to that EU has an eye on the big questions, Angelika Winzig is Upper Austria’s strong voice in the EU“, said State Governor Thomas Stelzer about the decision.
OÖVP expects second place on the list for Winzig as head of the delegation
Former State Secretary Reinhold Lopatka was previously nominated to the People’s Party’s federal executive committee as the People’s Party’s national top candidate. With a view to the upcoming decision about the other places on the list, OÖVP state manager Florian Hiegelsberger has a clear expectation: “As head of the delegation, Angelika Winzig is of course entitled to second place on the list for the EU elections. In this role, she has led the club of ÖVP MPs in Brussels with a steady hand and expertise since 2020. As a proven expert in European issues, she has the best qualifications to play a leading role in the team of candidates and to support Reinhold Lopatka at the top.”
Angelika Winzig has represented Upper Austria’s interests in the European Parliament since 2019. Winzig worked as managing partner of her surface technology company until 2022 and now acts as an independent management consultant.
