Pregnancy
The first twenty weeks of pregnancy were intense. “I was very sick and vomited ten times a day. I often fainted, couldn’t eat anything, and couldn’t sleep due to hunger. I even spit up blood. The family doctor recommended only paracetamol. I didn’t dare discuss it, I was afraid he would think I was a rude teenage mother. Then I felt alone because no one else could help me.
“Then I went on holiday to Bali. I was very afraid that I would still be sick when I got there. Then suddenly everything stopped the day I arrived.”

New life
Ana Lucia is confident that she can offer her son a good life. “I am convinced that a child should be given a good environment and love. It would feel selfish if I didn’t watch it. I have to be able to do that, because I’m a mother all my life.
“I’m on leave from school this month, but I’ll get part of my adult education certificate in May. My secondary school was very involved. I didn’t expect it. My mentor was very surprised, but luckily my grades remained good. We decided I would go to a new school.”

“When I got pregnant I called in sick. Due to the pregnancy I could no longer stay in school and I no longer ate anything. I was afraid that everyone would think I had an eating disorder. No one knew during the summer holidays, but then I told them about it in an ultrasound photo. I have turned off comments below, but have received no further negative responses.
Domestic situation
Ana Lucia and her boyfriend currently live together with her parents. “We live in a spacious house with two living rooms and have our own floor, even with a children’s room. We are in a great position, my boyfriend also has a connection with my family. He also likes our “family”. We eat together every day. My mother would like to have me at home until I’m thirty.
“We will look for our own place, but for me, as a ‘teenager’, moving now is a big step. I have extra respect for young mothers without help. Without a safety net I probably never would have made it. I am very grateful to my parents and friends.”
Ana Lucia talks about her life as a mother on TikTok and shares advice for other teenage mothers. “Sharing my pregnancy story has helped me grow a lot on TikTok. I have a great reach and have helped many girls. I am happy with all the opportunities this offers me.”
Birth
Ana Lucia finds childbirth quite emotional. “If it were up to me, I would have been pregnant for a while. I simply find it very intimate and welcoming. I’m not tired at all now. I really can’t wait to see my baby. Obviously I’m nervous about giving birth, I don’t really know what to expect. I actually haven’t done any research, I don’t want to scare myself. Now when I think about the fact that a birth could go wrong, I get stressed.”
“I had never thought about children, at least not until I was 25, but it still feels so right. I can’t imagine not having a big belly anymore. I feel so much love for my baby. When I heard other mothers say this I never knew what they were talking about, now I understand them completely.”
