An unexpected step from France: between Azerbaijan and Armenia… – 2024-08-07 14:34:41

France welcomes the holding of a new round of negotiations between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan in Almaty on May 10-11.

Publika.az reports, this is stated in the statement of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on the website of the department on May 12.

“France emphasizes the importance of the parties reaffirming their commitment to the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991 and the mutual recognition of their territorial integrity as the basis of this process at the quadrilateral meeting held in Prague on October 7, 2022,” the statement said.

In this regard, Paris calls for continued border delimitation based on the principles agreed in the declaration of April 19, 2024.

At the same time, Paris called on the parties to continue discussions in order to sign a peace agreement.

“We welcome the initiative of the Kazakh authorities to facilitate these negotiations, France will continue to work with its partners for the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the South Caucasus in accordance with international law.”

It should be recalled that on May 10-11, direct talks between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, took place in Almaty. The initiator of the meeting was the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev.

Such a statement by France, which constantly arms Armenia, does not want the signing of a peace treaty, and never welcomes the steps taken in this direction, is somewhat surprising. I wonder what is behind this “applause”?
