An official “donated” land for a cafe in Almaty

The prosecutor’s office of the Medeu district of Almaty focused on a case of abuse of power – illegal use of state property by a high-ranking official, Liter.kz reports with reference to the city prosecutor’s office.

The head of the territorial inspection of the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan was convicted of providing a land plot adjacent to the building of a government agency for the construction of a public catering facility. This fact caused a stir, as land intended for public needs was used for private interests.

“The prosecutor’s office submitted an act of prosecutorial supervision to the department of the City Civil Service Agency, which became the reason for wide discussion in the media and social networks. On the recommendation of the ethics council, the head of the inspection was given a disciplinary sanction in the form of a warning about incomplete official compliance,” – it says in a supervisory announcement dated June 17.

This case, according to the department, highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the public service and calls into question the effectiveness of control over the distribution of public resources.
