The head of the Professional Association of Clinical Nutritionists in Germany explained that sunlight helps the body produce vitamin D itself, indicating that for this purpose the face, arms and hands should be exposed to sunlight at least two or three times a week.

Be careful not to apply sunscreen to these parts, otherwise the cream will block the sun’s rays from penetrating the skin. However, at the same time, you should not exceed 12 minutes of sun exposure without sunscreen, to avoid reducing the risk of skin cancer.

Risk of excess supply

Professor Wexler stressed that in cases of severe deficiency, as in the case of people who are bedridden or suffer from severe obesity, food supplements containing vitamin D can be used, provided they are taken under the supervision of a doctor.

For its part, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment has warned of the danger of an excessive intake of vitamin D in the body.
