An elderly man digs a 40-meter tunnel in his home and dies after falling inside

A 71-year-old man, identified as João Pimenta da Silva, died after falling into a 40-meter tunnel that he himself, with the help of people he hired, had dug into his house following a prophecy that he said he had received in a dream. .
The case occurred in the Bethânia neighborhood, in Ipatinga (MG). The elderly man’s body was taken to the emergency room by the Civil Police to undergo an autopsy.
The company is awaiting the conclusion of reports to determine the circumstances and cause of death. The information comes from Exame. The firefighters reported that the man “presented multiple traumas, open fractures (…) no signs of life” when he was found in the house.

João Pimenta became obsessed after a dream in which he claimed that a spirit assured him that there was gold buried under the kitchen floor of the house. After the alleged prophecy, the elder long invested money in the construction of the tunnel, which had a depth equivalent to the size of a 13-story building.
The excavated tunnel is even deeper than metro stations in the city of São Paulo, such as Pinheiros, which is just over 31 meters deep, according to Metrô CPTM.
In Rio de Janeiro, the Cardeal Arcoverde station, which has earned the reputation of a “bat-cave” among Rio residents due to its depth, is only 2 meters more than the 40 meters estimated by firefighters in the pensioner’s well.
