An 8M with strength and rebellion in Chile and Latin America

Approximate reading time: 1 minute, 38 seconds

Today, on International Working Women’s Day, Latin America rises up with strength and rebellion to demand real change in societies. From the streets of Santiago de Chile, thousands of women and dissidents mobilize in a day of strike y activism convened by the 8M Coordinator.

An 8M with its own meaning. The region, marked by inequality and sexist violence, is experiencing an 8M with a special meaning. Women, who support the economy, educate, create and fight for a better future, demand an end to the injustices that affect them.

The 8M Coordinator, at the head. As the main feminist organization in Chile, it has organized a day of struggle that includes a strike and a cultural political event. The objective: express discontent and demand:

  • Equal pay and employment opportunities.
  • End to sexist violence in all its forms.
  • Access to sexual and reproductive health.
  • Non-sexist education.
  • Rights for migrant and dissident women.

A cry that resonates in Latin America. The fight for gender equality is not limited to Chile. From Argentina to Mexico, passing through Colombia and Ecuador, women unite in a single cry: Enough inequality! We want a future with gender equality!
