Ampasampito: Woman fatally struck by car

On Saturday morning, around 5:30 a.m., a tragedy occurred at Météo Ampasampito. A young woman in her thirties was crossing Gamo Street in Ampasampito when a young motorist hit her violently. The pedestrian did not survive the force of the impact. According to witnesses gathered at the scene, the driver, visibly panicked, tried to flee, but the victim remained trapped under the vehicle.

The local residents present reacted quickly and managed to stop the car, a Hyundai, a few meters from the scene of the accident. The emergency services, alerted, intervened to free the woman and administer first aid, but unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver, a young man, was taken to the police station where he was taken into custody. Drug tests revealed that his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit, indicating that he should not have been driving. According to information obtained, the driver was returning from a night out and was trying to go home when the accident occurred. Sources also claim that he was not in possession of a driving license at the time of the accident.

At the end of his police custody, the driver should be brought before the public prosecutor and could be charged with aggravated involuntary manslaughter.

This tragic accident highlights a recurring problem in the capital: road accidents linked to alcohol consumption. Intoxicated and speeding drivers often lose control of their vehicles, leading to fatal collisions, whether with pedestrians or other vehicles.
