Amancio Ortega, the first Spaniard to exceed 100,000 million dollars in assets

Madrid – Amancio Ortega, founder of textile emporium Inditex and owner of investment entity Pontegadea, has become the first Spaniard to surpass $100 billion in assets, according to the list published Friday by Forbes.

In addition to being the person with the greatest wealth in Spain, he is in twelfth place in the “ranking” of the richest in the world.

The businessman’s assets amount more precisely to 100.7 billion dollars, which is about 11 billion dollars more than in November.

This notable rebound in the accounts of Amancio Ortega, 87 years old, is mainly due, Forbes recalls, to the revaluation on the markets, up to around 55% this year, of Inditex, of which he is the majority shareholder, with 59.4% of titles.

The textile multinational owns brands such as Zara, Pull&Bear and Massimo Dutti, with clothing stores around the world.

Pontegadea’s investments in the international and national real estate sector also influenced the increase in assets.

In Spain, the list of the richest drawn up by Forbes places, after Amancio Ortega, one of his daughters, Sandra Ortega (8.9 billion dollars), Rafael del Pino (Ferrovial, 5.6 billion dollars) and Juan Roig ( Mercadona, 3.8 billion dollars).
