Cyrus finally regained his status as an Indonesian citizen after taking his citizenship oath at the DKI Jakarta Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, on Thursday (21/3/2024) morning WIB. He came accompanied by his father, Johan Margono, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Expert Staff for Diaspora and Youth, Hamdan Hamedan.
That way, Cyrus is now available and can be called up to the Indonesian National Team. He provides an additional option at the goalkeeper post for the coach, Shin Tae Yong.
The 22 year old goalkeeper is confident that he can strengthen the Garuda squad. He didn’t doubt his abilities at all.
“Yes, of course I am very confident with myself. “But, we’ll see later,” said Cyrus to media crew, including MNC Portal Indonesia, when met after taking the oath of office for Indonesian citizens.
Furthermore, Cyrus revealed that he had also made contact with PSSI. In fact, he has spoken with the Indonesian National Team Goalkeeper Coach, Yoo Jae Hoon.
“I have, for a long time. Of course that’s a good thing, but we’ll see. “I will talk to them (PSSI) after this,” explained the 191 cm goalkeeper.
“I have also had contact with Coach Yoo (Jae Hoon). “Last contact was this week,” he added.
However, so far Shin Tae Yong has not shown any interest in calling Cyrus. The South Korean coach is more interested in Dallas FC’s main goalkeeper, Maarten Paes, whose naturalization process has not yet been completed and is expected to only be able to defend the Red-White Team in June.
Cyrus himself currently plays as goalkeeper for the second division club in the Greek League, Panathinaikos B. Having joined since the 2021 season, the 191cm goalkeeper has played 17 times and recorded three clean sheets.
