Alpine hires McLaren engineer to get out of the slump

The team Alpine tries to straighten the path after a complicated start to the 2024 season where they are far from their goal of fighting for the top five and, to do so, they have reinforced their technical department by recruiting David Sanchez.

The engineer will now be the new Executive Technical Director and will be in charge of the performance, engineering and aerodynamics areas of the team owned by the Renault team.

Alpine has suffered in its 2024 car due to excess weight and also poor aerodynamic performance, a situation that has put them out of the fight for the points zone in a season where they expected to remain in the top five of the constructors’ standings. .

The Frenchman will begin to perform his duties immediately. Despite his departure a few weeks ago from McLaren no waiting time has been agreed upon.

Sanchez arrived at the Woking house from Ferrari in one of the most famous movements at the end of the 2023 season when leaving a senior position in aerodynamics, however, after three months with those from Woking there were no agreements between the job that was promised to him and his real functions, so that both decided to separate their paths.

“I’m excited about this challenge at Alpine,” said Sánchez. I am looking forward to returning to work at Enstone, the place where I started my career in Formula 1,” said the engineer who returns to his home where in 2005 he served as a junior aerodynamicist.

“This team has always had so many fantastic people involved and it is clear that there is a lot of potential to unlock. We have a big task ahead of us to improve performance on the track and these types of challenges are what motivate me,” he said.

Alpine is ninth in the constructors’ table without scoring a single point, which places it just ahead of Williams.
