Rüştü Turanlı, Chairman of Adıyaman’s Kahta Chamber of Agriculture, made statements regarding the almond yield purchase price shortly before the almond harvest.
Mayor Turanlı, who requested that the authorities take input prices into consideration when determining the almond yield purchase price, said that the farmers who did not leave their hometown after the earthquake continued their production despite all the adverse conditions.
President Turanlı said, “‘The almond area in Adıyaman had reached 108 thousand acres. It is expected that the almond yield will be 60 thousand tons in 2024. The price of grain was very low this year and farmers lost money. The problems experienced in grain should not be experienced in almonds. The economic crisis that our country is in has affected the agricultural community the most. Our farmers have had to get loans and term products from banks in order to cope with high inputs. We demand that the authorities take input prices into consideration when determining the almond yield purchase price. We demand that the almond yield purchase price for 2024 be at least 300 cents. Otherwise, our farmers will be helpless in the face of the 170-180 cents yield announced last year and their trust in almonds, which is their hope, will be shaken. In 2023, 2 thousand acres of almond gardens were uprooted in Kahta District. In order not to uproot the almond gardens that our farmers have cultivated with great efforts for 15 years, we, together with the Kahta Almond Union, We will inform Tayyip Erdoğan and our Minister of Agriculture İbrahim Yumaklı about our troubles,” he said. – ADIYAMAN
