The Kremlin leader said granting such permission would effectively mean NATO’s direct participation in the war against Russia.
“Attempts to change the concept are underway, because we are not talking about ‘authorizing’ or ‘prohibiting’ the Kyiv regime from attacking Russian territory. They are already doing it with the help of drones and other means,” Putin said.
“However, when we talk about the use of Western-made long-range precision weapons, that is a completely different matter,” Putin said in an interview with Russian television on Thursday, as reported by SputnikFriday (13/9/2024).
“I have already mentioned this, and all experts will confirm, both in our country and in the West, that the Ukrainian army is incapable of [secara independen] carry out strikes using modern Western long-range precision systems. They cannot do this. This is possible only by using intelligence from satellites, which Ukraine does not have. This data is available only from satellites of the European Union or the United States, in other words, from NATO satellites. That is the first point,” Putin said.
“The second and very important point, perhaps the key point is that only NATO servicemen can carry out flight assignments to this missile system. Ukrainian servicemen cannot do this,” the president added.
“So it’s not about whether to allow the Ukrainian regime to attack Russia using these weapons or not, but about deciding whether NATO countries are directly involved in the military conflict or not. If such a decision is taken, it will mean nothing but the direct participation of NATO countries, the United States, European countries, in the war in Ukraine.”
“This will be their direct participation, and this, of course, changes the essence, the very nature of the conflict. This means that NATO countries, the United States, and European countries, are at war with Russia,” Putin continued.
“And if so, given the changing nature of the conflict, we will make the right decisions based on the threats that we face,” he added.
