Jonathan Schoop hit an unstoppable RBI in the breakout run and the Algodoneros del Unión Laguna finished off with a 4-run rally in the sixth inning to beat the Charros de Jalisco last night with a score of 7 to 5, in the opening of the series that dispute at the Revolution Stadium.
Joe Van Meter achieved his second consecutive victory and was supported with 9 hits from his offense, as well as another timely relief from the Dominican Jesús Reyes. With their third consecutive victory, the Guindas now play for 33 games won and 23 lost, 2 games behind the lead in the North Zone, while the Caporales have 23 wins and 35 losses, outside the playoff qualifying zone.

The fourth inning brought the first scores from the Laguneros: against the starter’s deliveries
Eduardo Vera and with two outs on the board, Adrián Tovalín hit unstoppable, Daniel Palka received
walked, both advanced one base with a wild pitch and were driven in with a hit to right field by Panamanian Allen Córdoba.
Jalisco tied the game in the fifth inning, when Vimael Machín doubled to left and behind him, Greg Bird hit his 17th home run of the season to even the score at 2 runs. It was the only damage allowed by Joe Van Meter, who scored his fourth victory by pitching 5 innings of 7 hits, 2 runs and 4 strikeouts.
KEY HIT
The Algodoneros’ third run fell in the fifth inning, again with two outs in the
blackboard and with runners on the corners, Jonathan Schoop singled to left field that sent Julián Escobedo to the pentagon. Vera suffered his second setback after his 4 and two-thirds innings of 4 hits and 3 runs.
In the sixth inning, Laguna put dirt on the board: with the bases loaded, Julián León hit a hit to left field with an RBI of 2 runs, Tovalín and Palka scored for the home team. Edgar Robles produced a ground ball to the pitcher and Jonathan Villar with a single to center field to make it 2-7.
PITCHING
After Van Meter’s work, Jesús Reyes, Yoan López and Taylor Williams paraded on the mound through Laguna, who scored zero in their respective innings of work. In the ninth
Tyler Wilson entered the mound, to whom, with two outs, Antony Giansanti hit a home run
in left field with two men on base to tighten the score 5-7. Thomas McIlraith took charge of retiring the 27th out with a strikeout to reach 13 saves on the year and complete the victory for the Algodoneros.
This Saturday the second game of the series will be played at 7:00 p.m. at the Estadio de la Revolución.
