Algerian-Egyptian discussions regarding developments in Israel’s war on Gaza

Algeria – Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held discussions with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, yesterday, Wednesday, regarding developments in the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip since last October 7.

The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement, that these discussions took place on the sidelines of Attaf’s participation in the work of the 161st extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level in Cairo.

It reported that the two ministers discussed “developments in the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, in addition to issues related to inter-coordination at the continental level.”

“They also discussed the distinguished relations of brotherhood and cooperation between the two brotherly countries and ways to advance them to greater levels in the context of preparing for future bilateral elections,” according to the statement.

On Tuesday, during an extraordinary meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Attaf called for severing all forms of diplomatic, economic and security relations with the “Zionist entity.”

Out of 22 Arab countries, five countries: Egypt, Jordan, the Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco maintain official declared relations with Israel, which has been occupying lands in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon for decades.

Attaf stressed “the necessity of effective and effective action at all available levels to intensify pressure on the Zionist occupation, stop its coercion and bullying of innocent people, and hold it accountable by strengthening the steps taken before international judicial bodies and supporting them with additional efforts before the United Nations General Assembly.”

Two weeks ago, the United States used its veto in the UN Security Council, aborting a draft resolution submitted by Algeria calling for an “immediate” ceasefire in Gaza for humanitarian reasons.

The war on Gaza left tens of thousands of civilian casualties, most of them children and women, an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure and property, according to Palestinian and UN data.

Israel insists on continuing the war, despite its appearance, for the first time since its establishment in 1948, before the International Court of Justice. On charges of committing “genocide” crimes against the Palestinians.
