Reading time: 2 min Sébastien Tellier and Alain Chamfort, during the recording of the EP “Alain Chamfort produced by Sébastien Tellier”. (BMG)
Six years after his album The disorder of things (2018), in which the eternal young man had enchanted critics and the public by taking on his age and wrinkles with class, Alain Chamfort announces his return. Impermanencepresented as “the last album that will crown a recording career lasting more than fifty And”, is scheduled for March 22.
In the meantime, and as an appetizer, he released an EP in collaboration with the author of The Ritornellasoberly baptized Alain Chamfort produced by Sébastien Tellier. Four titles that flow naturally as the tandem achieves perfect artistic harmony, between the fragile voice of one and the sumptuous cinematic orchestrations of the other.
End of the world and anthem to women
Thus, the first single from this summit meeting, Whiskey Ice, is a potential hit with its delicate end-of-the-world lyrics, its rhythmic crawl, its beautiful strings and its little saxophone riff. “Feel the calm before the storm / The silence too deep to be honest”, asks Chamfort, “Feel the calm before defeat / The sad favors at the end of the party / A scent in the air of the last hour / This perfect moment before the comet / The birdsong that suddenly stops”.
Female, a female anthem skillfully shot by someone who has always embraced her feminine side, is the other strong point of this EP. With her voice particularly fragile and marked by time, Chamfort notes with crazy elegance the advanced post-#MeToo feminists: “It’s always hard to turn the page / For every blink of an eye a war raged / But my daughter, courage / Because the world wakes up more beautiful every morning / Because the world turns out to be more beautiful in your hands”he sings, immersed in the heart of a poignant whirlwind of violins and luminous choirs.
A tour between concerts and secrets
Sulfur in our skin et Chair complete this EP with which the duo seems to have had fun above all. For the record, it was Sébastien Tellier who expressed his desire to work with Alain Chamfort last spring. The latter proposed ideas, based on texts by his faithful lyricist Pierre-Dominique Burgaud, which the bearded dandy completed and arranged with the complicity of his musicians Adrien Soleiman (saxophone/keyboards) and Louis Delorme (drums), in the famous Parisian studio Motorbass by the late Philippe Zdar (of Cassius).

In addition to this aperitif delight and the party announced with an album that will be final in spring (and which will not be produced by Sébastien Tellier), Alain Chamfort will be on tour this January with a new show, between concert and secrets.
Accompanied by his pianist, he will draw from his repertoire of classics and little-known titles and, in the company of his accomplice the presenter Valli, he will try his hand at the game of the live interview, retracing his fifty years of singing, his best moments, his his socks, and his work with Jacques Dutronc, Claude François and Serge Gainsbourg but also his complicity with his favorite authors Jacques Duval and Pierre-Dominique Burgaud.
“Alain Chamfort produced by Sébastien Tellier” (BMG) releases Friday 12 January.
Alain Chamfort will be in concert on June 6th in Point Éphémère (Paris), but until then he will be engaged in a traveling “musical conversation” from January 16th in Issoudun, then January 20th in Granville, January 24th and 28th in Paris (Théâtre de l’Œuvre, sold out), 26 January in Mainvilliers, 15 February in Marseille, 23 February in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, 26 March in Paris (always at the Théâtre de l’Œuvre), etc.
