Al-Sakuri: Morocco is interested in industrial investment

The Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Enterprises, Employment and Competencies, Younes Skouri, said Thursday in Geneva that Morocco is betting on achieving the structural transformation of its economy through a new generation industrial policy aimed at activating a comprehensive and integrated development project.

Al-Skouri highlighted, in an intervention within a plenary session of the Global Leaders Forum held to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), which was opened by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, that Morocco is keen to implement its development project in light of social stability and peace, because The challenge is not only to achieve growth, but to stimulate inclusive development for all segments of Moroccan society while seeking spatial justice through the openness of the national economy to global production chains.

In this context, he recalled that Morocco had entered into a series of free trade agreements that opened a wide market for Moroccan products, and had also adopted public policies seeking to rehabilitate the environmental environment for highly profitable industrial sectors.

He pointed out that the Kingdom has made important leaps in terms of a new generation of industries, especially the automobile and aviation industries, as it occupies the forefront on the African level.

The Minister touched on Morocco’s success in developing a promising offer for investment in renewable energies, especially in the field of green hydrogen, stressing that Morocco is working to double investment in renewable energies three times annually in the near term.

He also reviewed some of the efforts exerted at the level of investment in the formation of human resources that support the development of many productive sectors, which is embodied in the cities of professions and competencies that cover vital industrial fields.

It is noteworthy that the Global Leaders Forum, organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, represents a moment to reflect on the lessons learned over the past six decades and chart a new path for the future of trade in its relationship to development across the world.

The forum revolves around the theme “Charting a new path for development in a changing world” in an effort to stimulate work to reimagine development in the era of multiple globalization, with the perspective of building a flexible, equitable and sustainable future.

The forum includes a two-day program with high-level participation from heads of state, heads of institutions, economists and senior experts who will participate in discussions on innovative methods for approaching sustainable development issues and enhancing the role of UNCTAD and its influence on trade and development paths, with special attention to the needs of developing countries.
