Muhammad Fawzi Al-Karkari chaired the opening ceremony of the “Al-Karkari Institute for Sufi Studies in the United States of America” where he conducted a “dialogue in which he explained the meaning of this initiative, answering some contemporary questions from a spiritual, enlightening, divine perspective.”
A statement received by Hespress stated that this dialogue was moderated by the American professor and researcher in the field of Sufism at Indiana University in the United States, Rachel Takola, while the translation was done by Dr. Al-Hawari Ramzi, professor of Islamic and Arabic studies at the American University in Sharjah, in the Emirates, who is a specialist in the history of Sufi thought in North Africa and Andalusia.
The statement described the Karkari Foundation for Sufi Studies as “a scientific organization licensed by the US federal authorities”; and it aims to “establish a scientific platform to disseminate and deepen concepts about Sufism through academic research; in addition to its commitment to academic excellence.”
The same source stated that the foundation “focuses on spreading a comprehensive message that highlights the multifaceted teachings of Sufism, including the intellectual, philosophical, social and cultural aspects, from the classical Islamic era to the modern era; it also provides a platform that respects and appreciates the historical wealth of Sufi teachings and the dynamic wisdom of its contemporary manifestations.”
The document added: “The Foundation is distinguished by its own approach that recognizes the importance of the voices of contemporary Sufi sheikhs in global intellectual discourse, and it also realizes that studying the teachings of sheikhs such as Muhammad Fawzi Al-Karkari is of utmost importance to enhancing human understanding of Sufism and the religion of Islam. Therefore, it is committed to presenting the sheikh’s teachings in a comprehensive manner that reveals the scientific treasure hidden in the chain of transmission of the Karkari order and the extent of its transformative power on the personal, social and cultural levels.”
The statement continued, “The role of the Karkari Foundation is not limited to studying Sufism alone, but also seeks to create a rich dialogue that enhances understanding, respect, and peaceful coexistence among the parties of the Islamic nation and between religions.” It continued, “Moreover, this center is committed to being a bridge between academic research and personal spiritual experience through the sciences taught by Sheikh Muhammad Fawzi Karkari through the luminous manifestations.”
The foundation also works, according to the source’s conclusion, “to translate its research and results into knowledge that can be understood by specialists in the field and lovers interested in the sciences of the knowledgeable people of God.” Hespress from Rabat
