Al Hilal Club honors “Conquerer of Waves” Ibrahim Al Nawal

Benghazi, March 22, 2024 (Al Anbaa Libya) – The activities of the Cultural Committee at Al Hilal Club in Benghazi continue, as part of the Ramadan plan, which coincides with the seventy-second anniversary of the club’s founding.

Last Wednesday evening, a ceremony was held to honor former international swimmer Ibrahim Al-Nawal, in the presence of club president Ali Al-Sharif, sports figures in the field of swimming, media figures, intellectuals, and the swimmer’s family.

Ibrahim Al-Nawal, a former international swimmer, known by his nickname “The Conqueror of the Waves,” is considered one of the most honorable faces in the history of Libyan sports, distinguished by his excellence and determination.

In 1959, Al-Nawal joined Al-Hilal Club, when he was 18 years old, where he participated in crossing the port of Benghazi, covering a distance of (1800) meters, and obtained first place, and since then, championships have passed for him successively.

Among his achievements are many international and international competitions, where he achieved second place in Tunisia in 1963, and fourth place in the world long-distance race in Egypt in 1971.
He also won fifth place in the World Nile Race in 1971, and a silver medal in the Naples Capri Race in Italy in 1971, with a distance of (40) kilometers.

Egyptian newspapers praised Al-Nawal, including Al-Thawra, Al-Massa, Al-Jumhuriya Al-Misriyah, Al-Raed, Al-Shuala, Army of the People, Al-Haqiqa, Al-Raqib, Al-Ahram Al-Misriyah, Al-Jihad, Al-Amal, and Al-Hadara magazine.

He was also honored by the Cultural Committee of Al Hilal Club in 2023, in recognition of his achievements and contributions to the sport of swimming, as he is considered a symbol of heroism and excellence in the Libyan sport of swimming, and his name is engraved in golden letters in the memory of future generations. The ceremony concluded by honoring Al-Nawal with a shield and a certificate of appreciation. (Libyan News Benghazi).
