“Al-Dabaiba” is looking into providing basic goods to citizens at cost prices during the holy month of Ramadan

Tripoli, February 6, 2024 AD (Al-Anbaa Al-Libya) – The Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, held a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday, Monday, which included the Minister of Economy and Trade, Muhammad Al-Hawaij, the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Suhail Bushiha, a number of department directors in the Ministry, and the Director General of the General Customs Authority, Major General Suleiman Ali Salem, and Minister of State for Prime Minister and Cabinet Affairs Adel Gomaa.

The meeting focused on discussing the provision of basic commodities during the holy month of Ramadan and setting the basis for their prices according to the cost of supplying them.

The Minister of Economy, Al-Hawaij, presented a position on the documentary credits opened during the last quarter of last year, which exceed $4 billion, and explained that the number of companies obtaining credits for the supply of food and meat reached 733 companies.

Al-Hawaij noted that the goods will be available in the markets before the beginning of the month of Ramadan to contribute to the stability of market prices.

Al-Dabaiba directed the necessity of monitoring the markets and tracking the stages of the process, starting from the stage of opening the credit to the arrival of the goods at the ports and ending at the points of sale for citizens. He stressed the importance of consolidating the competitive environment, preventing monopoly, and taking legal measures against violators.

Al-Dabaiba stressed the refusal to grant an exception for the supply of a prohibited commodity to a specific company, and the need for the Ministry of Economy to undertake its procedures to provide equal opportunities for all those engaged in activities, and work to recognize health certificates issued by internationally accredited centers, and determine a periodic list announced by the Ministry, in order to contribute to the flow of goods and the lack of Its monopoly.

Al-Dabaiba stressed the necessity of following up on the main private suppliers and factories, ensuring the quantities available during the coming period, not allowing speculation in prices, the necessity of continuing meetings with the competent authorities to ensure the availability of basic goods, and focusing on the Ports and Customs Authority in working around the clock to facilitate the speedy release of supplied goods.
