His Excellency Dr. Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Minister of Information, announced the opening of applications to participate in the eighth session of the “Prime Minister’s Award for Journalism”, starting from April 1 until April 15, 2024.

On this occasion, His Excellency the Minister of Information confirmed that the coincidence of the award in its session this year with the silver jubilee of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the country, may God protect and preserve him, assuming the reins of government in the Kingdom of Bahrain, confirming the status that the press and media have reached in the Kingdom of Bahrain. A pioneer under the prosperous reign of His Majesty the Great King, which provided it with all the elements of development and prosperity, and enabled it to carry out its noble mission in supporting the comprehensive development process that the nation is witnessing in all sectors under the wise leadership of His Majesty, may God support him.

His Excellency added that the Prime Minister’s Award for Journalism constitutes a qualitative event in the process of journalistic work in the Kingdom of Bahrain since its launch in 2016, and reflects the care and interest given by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, to the press and journalists. Which constitutes an incentive for them to play their role in serving the nation’s issues and expressing the aspirations of citizens.

His Excellency the Minister of Information revealed that the eighth session of the award this year witnessed development and diversification in its fields and categories, as (6) new awards were added, bringing a total of (10) journalistic awards, in addition to honoring the journalistic personality of the year, and including digital content and journalism student projects within the categories. Competition, adding accompanying events on the sidelines of the award ceremony, and forming a general secretariat for the award within the ministry.

His Excellency stated that the award categories in the eighth session will include: best opinion column, best journalistic investigation, best journalistic dialogue, best press photo, best specialized page or supplement, best visual journalistic content (video), best “infographic”, best website or news account. For a journalistic institution, the best student journalistic project for universities, in addition to awarding the “Journalist Personality of the Year Award”, which will be given annually to a Bahraini journalist in recognition of her contributions to the field of journalism, and the work she has presented and the roles she has played that have enriched the journalistic scene and left clear imprints on the path of national journalism.

His Excellency explained that providing the opportunity for students of journalism and media departments and colleges at universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain to participate aims to support university media youth and encourage them to innovate and develop in this vital sector.

The “Prime Minister’s Award for Journalism” aims to celebrate journalists, honor them, and appreciate their great contributions, encourage creativity and excellence in creating Bahraini journalistic content, enhance the spirit of competition among media institutions to provide the best journalistic content, encourage young media competencies in colleges of journalism and media, open the way for them, and diversify content. Creative and interactive digital work on newspaper websites and institutions’ accounts on social media networks.

The general conditions of the award are that it is limited to materials published and produced during the year (2023) in the local press and colleges and departments of journalism and media in universities. Each journalist or press institution is entitled to register with only two entries for each category of the award. Colleges and departments of journalism and media in universities are also entitled to register with only two entries for each category of the award. Bahrain nominated only 3 student journalistic works across the department in the category of Best Student Journalism Project for Universities.

The conditions stipulate that if the participant or organization submits more than two contributions for the same journalist, the first two contributions submitted electronically will be approved and the subsequent ones will be cancelled. Participants are not entitled to submit works that have previously won any local or foreign award.

The applicant for the award bears full responsibility for his submitted works. He is also required to complete the form designated for nomination for the award on the Ministry of Information website (www.mia.gov.bh), and include the basic attachments (the original material or the electronic link), or the material in PDF format, stating It bears the name of the journalist, the publication, and the date of publication, specifying the award category.
