Her Excellency Dr. Jalila bint Al-Sayyid Jawad Hassan, Minister of Health, headed the delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain participating in the eighth ministerial meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Food Safety, which was held by the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council in the sisterly State of Qatar during the period from 6 to 7 March 2024.

On this occasion, Her Excellency the Minister of Health confirmed that holding this meeting comes to enhance joint efforts and consolidate cooperation relations between the GCC countries in the field of systems development and standardization of procedures related to food safety, through the exchange of information and experiences in the field of food safety and cooperation in implementing joint preventive and supervisory measures. And developing common standards and regulations, which contributes to improving food quality and safety for consumers in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The ministerial meeting discussed many topics on its agenda, which included the unified food “system” law for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the Gulf guide for controlling imported foods, the Gulf Center for Food Risk Assessment, and the mechanism for imposing and lifting the ban on the import of foods of animal origin and their products. In addition to new foods, and following up on the decisions issued by the Ministerial Committee at the seventh meeting held in June 2023.

It is noteworthy that the work of the preparatory meeting of the Committee of Undersecretaries of Ministers and Food Safety Authorities was held via video communication technology on Thursday, February 15, 2024, in the presence of representatives from member states. They stressed the importance of these periodic meetings held within the framework of unifying joint Gulf efforts in the GCC countries in the field of monitoring food safety, which reflects on the health and safety of citizens and residents of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
