Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee said in an interview with Al-Arabiya channel on Sunday that the Iranian attack failed and did not achieve its goals.
Adraee stressed, “Any Iranian march did not penetrate Israeli airspace,” adding that all cruise missiles launched by Iran were intercepted before they entered Israeli airspace.
He added, “Most of the ballistic missiles were intercepted, and only a small number of them fell inside Israel,” considering that “the Iranian attack failed and did not achieve its goals.”
He also stressed that “the damage to the Navatem Air Base is very minimal, and operations there are continuing,” adding that “there is no truth to Iranian reports about the destruction of two military sites during the attack.”
Adraee also said that Iron Dome intercepted a large number of missiles, especially those launched from Lebanon.
Adraee stressed that “there is no truth to the reports that Israel was informed of the Iranian attack before it occurred,” adding: “We do not communicate with Iran, and we were not informed by any intermediary of the date of its attack.”
The Israeli army spokesman also said that Israel will take its measures to respond to Iran “in accordance with the highest interest.”
This comes as sirens and airstrikes sounded across Israel early Sunday after Iran launched hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles in an unprecedented retaliation mission that pushed the Middle East closer to full-scale war.
An Israeli military spokesman said that the launches exceeded 300, 99% of which were intercepted.
Admiral Daniel Hagary described the result as a “very significant strategic success,” noting that Iran had launched 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles and more than 120 ballistic missiles. Among those missiles, several ballistic missiles reached Israeli territory and caused minor damage to an air base.
