Iftar cannon is an old and popular tradition and one of the main features of Ramadan in Bahrain
It evokes memories of the past among the older generation while arousing curiosity and excitement among the youth and children.
Ramadan cannon firing is practiced in the Kingdom and other parts of the Islamic world such as Kuwait, Oman and the United Arab Emirates among many other countries.
The cannon is very popular among people because it is an important part of the month of Ramadan, a source of joy and bears witness to unforgettable moments of the country’s heritage.
Traditionally cannons were fired to announce the beginning and end of the fast long before the invention of loudspeakers and other digital tools, and although cannons are no longer widely used for this purpose, they continue in the region as part of the heritage to promote cultural values.
