Yesterday, the activities of the first session of the Baghdad Film Festival kicked off, headed by artist Dr. Jabbar Judi, Director of the Theater and Cinema Department and the Head of the Iraqi Artists Syndicate, bears the name of the Iraqi director Muhammad Shukri Jamil, and is organized by the Iraqi Artists Syndicate in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities and the Cinema and Theater Department, and under the patronage of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani.

The opening ceremony began at Al-Mansour Cinema, in the presence of the stars and guests of the festival. The opening ceremony includes a screening of a film about the Iraqi director, Mohamed Shukri Jamil, and a screening of the opening film, which participates in the official competition for the feature film “Goodbye, Julia,” from Sudan, by director Mohamed Kordofani.

The events of Goodbye Julia take place in Khartoum just before the secession of the south, where Mona, a northern woman who lives with her husband Akram, causes the death of a southern man, and then appoints his wife, Julia, who is looking for him, as a maid in her house and helps her in an attempt to purge her sense of guilt.

Fifty-nine films compete for the festival’s prizes within the five competitions, and it witnesses a wide participation of Iraqi and Arab films competing for its valuable prizes within the framework of its five competitions: feature films, short novels, animation, and documentaries.
