Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, stressed that natural gas plays an essential role in achieving sustainable development and meeting the growing global needs for energy.
This came during the speech delivered by Tebboune at the opening of the seventh summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, today, Saturday, in Algeria.
Tebboune explained that this summit is an opportunity to draw a common vision to preserve the interests of gas producers and consumers at the same time, indicating Algeria’s aspiration to work closely with gas exporting countries to advance the forum and achieve its strategic goals.
He added that today’s challenges require member states of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum to strengthen dialogue and multilateral action to achieve the goals we set when establishing this forum.
The Algerian President indicated that his country, along with all partners, realizes that natural gas is an affordable energy source, appreciating at the same time the inclusion of Mozambique and Mauritania in this forum as members.
The Gas Exporting Countries Forum is an intergovernmental organization representing the most important gas exporting countries in the world. Together they constitute 70 percent of proven global gas reserves, more than 40 percent of marketed production, 47 percent of pipeline exports, and more than half of liquefied natural gas exports at the global level. .
