Scotland coach Steve Clarke described the German team’s performance in the opening match as “wonderful”, after a 5-1 loss in the Euro 2024 tournament.

Clark said after the match between Germany and Scotland: “Germany’s performance was wonderful, and unfortunately we were not able to keep up with the opponent.”

He added: “They outplayed us and did not give us any chance in the match. The final result was disappointing.”

He continued: “The opportunity still exists, and we need four points, which is what we must focus on.”

In turn, Scotland captain Andy Robertson told ITV: “In the first half, we made a mistake in everything. We did not appear, we did not play with the required aggressiveness and we allowed the strong opponent to possess the ball.”

He pointed out, “In the second half, we played with ten players, yet we were brave. Despite the public support, it was a disappointing day and we must recover quickly.”

The current edition of the continental championship comes three years after the previous edition was held without public attendance due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced the European Union to postpone the competition from 2020 to 2021.

24 teams will participate in the prestigious continental competition in its seventeenth edition, during which 51 matches will be held, noting that the final will be held on July 14 in Berlin.

The Italian team won the last edition at Wembley Stadium, defeating England in the final match on penalties.

Germany and Spain are the two countries that have won the most titles in the history of the competition, with three titles, compared to two for France and Italy, while Die Mannschaft is the team that has participated most (14 times).
