Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu revealed that things did not go as planned, and that he did not enjoy the past season after returning to the Catalan team and also suffered from mental problems.
Romeo said in statements reported by the Spanish newspaper “Marca”: Barcelona came and put its offer on the table and told me that I would be very important…but everything changed in one way or another.
He added: When I was on the bench, I tried to put myself in the appropriate state of mind when Xavi asked me to participate. When I am on the field, my adrenaline rises, and if I lose a match, I cannot sleep.
Speaking about his performance, Romeo admitted: As for the physical aspect, it is not what I wanted. There was a mental problem too.
Barcelona’s season was disappointing, as the team finished the season in second place behind its rival, Real Madrid, and was eliminated from the Champions League in the quarter-finals by Paris Saint-Germain.
Romeo rose through the ranks of Barcelona’s academy and made his debut with the first team in 2010 before moving to Chelsea a year later.
The 31-year-old also spent loan spells at Valencia and Stuttgart before spending seven years at Southampton and then moving to Girona and from there to Barcelona.
