Russian President Vladimir Putin said that economic data at the beginning of the year were higher than expectations.
Putin added that the country’s gross domestic product recorded a growth of 6 percent in the period from January to last February on an annual basis.
He said: “The data at the beginning of the year was higher than the expectations presented by the government, the Bank of Russia and some experts, as Russia’s gross domestic product grew by 6 percent on an annual basis.”
The International Monetary Fund expects Russia’s gross domestic product to grow by 3.2 percent this year.
The Russian President said that Russian federal budget revenues increased one and a half times in the period from January to March on an annual basis.
Putin stressed that economic growth has a positive impact on the federal budget, as its revenues this year have greatly exceeded last year’s level, and in particular non-oil and gas revenues increased by 43 percent in the first quarter of 2024.
Putin also noted that industrial activity in Russia is improving, rising by 8.5 percent in February.
