An Israeli newspaper said, on Monday, that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the cabinet ministers of the cancellation of the war council, after the withdrawal of both Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot.
The newspaper “Israel Hayom” indicated that after National Security Minister Itamar Ben Afir requested to join the war council, Netanyahu informed the ministers of this and told them: “The war council is cancelled.”
The political and security cabinet discussed steps that would enhance settlement in the West Bank, including a response to some countries’ unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state after October 7. It also discussed a series of steps that would be taken against the Palestinian Authority as a result of its activities against Israel in international forums.
The Minister of Defense and the government’s legal advisor requested another time limit to submit their comments on some of the proposed steps.
The Prime Minister instructed that all proposals be put to a vote during the next cabinet session.
The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that the measures against the authority have been postponed until the next cabinet.
She added that the Minister of Defense wanted to understand and examine the security ramifications of the decisions against the Palestinian Authority, and therefore requested an additional period to study matters.
