After repeatedly threatening through its officials over the past few days, that the raid that targeted its consulate in Damascus would not go unpunished, Iran renewed its threats on Wednesday.

“The resistance will respond…or we”

Member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian Parliament and former member of the Revolutionary Guard, Ismail Kothari, announced that his country adheres to its right to strike Israel in the appropriate place.

He said in an interview with the ILNA news agency that, with the attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, Israel committed a clear violation of the 1961 United Nations Convention, which is an invasion of a territory, because striking consulates and embassies is tantamount to an invasion of the territory of a country, as he put it.

As for Iran’s right to respond, Kothari pointed to his country’s right to respond, but in the appropriate place and at the appropriate time as well, considering that Israel must bear responsibility for its actions.

He announced that there are many elements in what he called the “Resistance Front” that will respond, continuing: “And if necessary… we will respond ourselves,” referring to the pro-Iranian groups in Syria, Iraq and Yemen that have always carried out attacks since the beginning of the war on Gaza and said that they were in retaliation, while The West accused it of receiving Iranian support.

He also stressed the need for the main members of the United Nations to meet as soon as possible to take a decision on this issue and to deal forcefully with its perpetrators.

He stressed that this attack could not be carried out without coordination with America, which Washington has repeatedly denied.

He pointed out that it will be responsible and implement the measures it decides so that the situation does not happen again.

An Iranian threat and the factions are moving

It is noteworthy that this announcement came a few hours after several militias loyal to Tehran moved in the region following the attack on Damascus.

Iraqi armed factions announced in a statement yesterday, Tuesday, that they had targeted the Israeli Tal Nof base with drones.

Those factions calling themselves “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” also added on Telegram that they would continue their attacks on Israel. But it indicated that its strikes came in response to the bombing of civilians in Gaza.

Meanwhile, Abu Alaa Al-Wala’i, Secretary-General of the “Master of Martyrs’ Brigades” militia, referred to “hell” in a tweet on his account on the X platform, writing, “You will see hell” in reference to the Israeli forces.

Simultaneously, the Yemeni Houthi group also moved, as the US Central Command announced on Tuesday the destruction of a Houthi drone boat.

Also, it was reported that a drone targeted the Al-Tanf base in Syria, the first attack by Iraqi militias on American bases since last February, in apparent response to the consulate strike, according to what was reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

In turn, Lebanese Hezbollah also hinted yesterday that a response to the consulate attack was coming.

This came after an Israeli air strike destroyed the Iranian consulate headquarters in Damascus on Monday, according to what Syrian and Iranian officials announced, causing 11 deaths, including two leaders and members of the Revolutionary Guard, in light of escalating regional tension.

While the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights stated that “Israeli missiles destroyed a building attached to the embassy on the Mezzeh Highway in the capital, Damascus.”

The targeted building is located directly next to the Iranian embassy, on its facade hung a huge picture of Quds Force Commander Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in an American drone attack in Iraq in January 2020.

For its part, Israel refused to comment on the attack.

Despite this, Iranian officials promised a firm response at the appropriate time and place, as they put it, which reinforces fears of a greater escalation in violence between Israel and Iran’s allies, which has been sparked by the Gaza war since last October.

It is noteworthy that the Revolutionary Guards had announced the killing of the commander of the Quds Force, Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and Brigadier General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, as well as the advisors Hossein Aman Allahi, Mehdi Jalalati, and Mohsen Sadaqat, in addition to Ali Agha Babaei and Seyyed Ali Salehi Rozbehani, in a strike. Consulate.
