Inter Milan celebrated the Italian League title “noisily” on Sunday, using an open bus that traveled around the city.
But what caught attention was the involvement of a number of Inter stars in “anti- and satirical” activities towards rivals AC Milan.
Dutch defender Denzel Dumfries was the “riot hero”, as he carried a banner showing him dragging a dog on a leash, with the face of French defender Theo Hernandez, an AC Milan player, on it.
Hernandez had gotten into an altercation with Dumfries in the last derby, and both players were sent off, which fueled the dispute between them.
Dumfries and his teammate Marcus Thuram described Hernandez as a “dog” in a live broadcast on social media, which constituted a provocation among fans of both teams.
Inter midfielder Davide Fratesi also held up a banner reading “Milanista Chiacchierone”, which means the Milan fan “likes to say nonsense a lot”.
On Sunday evening, the Public Prosecutor’s Office began obtaining video clips of what happened, and reports expected that an investigation would be opened into the matter, as has happened in similar circumstances in the recent past.
Turkish Hakan Calhanoglu was the target of chants and ridicule from Milan players and fans, when the team celebrated the league title two years ago, which prompted him to respond to Milan fans during the celebrations, by repeating phrases from a sarcastic song.
